In Negotiations have been going for over a period as usual between the Unions and the estates on raisingthe daily wage for estate works. This is the basic wage and separate to all the other benefits and bonuses that they receive. The last negotiated level was Rs.1,150.00 per day, the Unions have been negotiating for a Rs.1,500/= daily rate. However as it is an election year, the Government have Gazetted a rate to be paid at Rs.1,700/=. If this is a political stunt, it takes no cognisance of the delicate balance that has to be taken in these negotiations balancing what the Commercial tea market will pay to the estates and what the estates can realistically afford to pay its workers.
OUR NEW ADDITIONS TO OUR RANGE:
In recent months we have developed some new teas with certain estates: Our New Vithanakande B.O.P. 1 which is an excellent brew to balance the addition of cows milk and will also balance the use of Oat Milk where consumers wish use that sort of product. The tea was a Silver Award winner in the 2022 U.K. Tea Councils, Leafies Tea Competition. Secondly our New Vithanakande F.B.O.P.F. Ex Sp1, produces a slightly lighter liquor but retains a slightly higher and more intense level of traditional Caramel taste that follows the inital dryness on the palate.
Hellbodde B.O.P. was a favourite with some of our clients for it’s slightly thicker liquor. Now that Hellbodde estate has ceased manufacturing, We are proposing Shannon B.O.P. as an alternative with a very slight sweetness to the liquor.
