GREAT TASTE AWARDS
I have recently entered several single estate teas from the 2018 quality season in the Great Taste Competition for this year.
I am now very pleased to report that I have just received the news from the Guild of Fine Food here in the U.K. that Robert Wilson’s Ceylon Tea have won 7 Great Taste Awards which are listed in the Awards the section headed ‘Tea Awards’ under the main heading Robert Wilson Ceylon Tea.
‘IN THE PRESS’ ADDITION
I have today added an interesting PDF in this section which relates to the visit by the son of the Governor of the Bank of England in 1884 to Ceylon whilst the island was recovering from the disaster of the failure of Coffee as a crop to finance the development of the island and his comments give us an interesting insight into what was happening at the time, whilst he stayed with my family at Pen-Y-Lan and Doteloya estates.
ATTENDED THE 150th. ANNIVERSARY TEA PARTY AT THE SL HIGH COMMISSION
On 6th. July attended by kind invitation from Her Excellency Ms. Amari Wijewardene and met old friends on a steaming hot day. I do wish they would serve Ceylon loose tea though and not tea bags. Not difficult if they offer two or three teas rather than all seven. However other than that an excellent and interesting afternoon.
‘IN THE PRESS’ IS A NEW SECTION UNDER ROBERT WILSON’S CEYLON TEA
I have entered several articles as PDF links in this section and new items may appear from time to time.
APPOINTMENT OF A DISTRIBUTOR
As I m having to slow down a little I have appointed a distributor for my teas. My youngest daughter has decided that she would like to undertake this and together with two other persons she has formed a company which is – Wilson Family Teas., Ltd.
I shall still be involved with the production end for the teas and with the import of the teas to a port in the U.K.
A NEW TEA FOR MY RANGE
I am excited to report that I shall be importing a new black tea for 2016. I recently had the opportunity for a visit to one of our old family estates called Doteloya in the Kandy District – Dolosbage region and arrangements were made for a manufacture at the estate from the 2016 Western quality season to be packed by our office in Colombo and imported here to the U.K. The tea has arrived, is now in stock and being distributed by Wilson Family Teas Ltd whom I have appointed as reported above. Contact details on the home page. In 2017 this tea won a star in the Great Taste Awards.
To see a report on the estate click the button headed Districts & Estates and go to the section on ‘Kandy District’.
GREAT TASTE AWARDS RESULTS 2015
- 5 of my single estate loose teas were entered into the above competition and the results were:
- NUWARA ELIYA 3 STARS
- DIMBULA 2 STARS
- UVA 2 STARS
- UDA PUSSELLAWA 1 STAR
- NATURAL EARL GREY 1 STAR
Clearly the commercial market likes a stronger tasting Earl Grey. Most of my customers taking this top selling tea keep sending compliments about the quality of this tea and the fact that it is the best that they have ever purchased. The Natural oil instead of Nature Identical tends to give a less over powering flavour level.
CEYLON TEA PROMOTION & SOUTH WESTERN TEAS UPDATE
I am pleased to report that the guild of Fine Food have been distributing a 12 page Ceylon Tea supplement which I was pleased to help with, to the trade in their monthly magazine and hopefully this may help the trade understand the comparatively complex range of Ceylon tea types that we are involved with.
