Green Tea. Gunpowder type.
GP1 grade leaf

Weliagala, Gampola.

SILVER  MEDAL winner at the Guild of Fine Food Retailers' Great Taste Awards 1999.

The leaf is picked by special arrangement from several areas. Mr. Naotuna supervises the taking of leaf from  lands belonging to the Panabokke family (a much respected old Kandy family) and from other well disciplined small holders in the area under strict supervision and disciplined plucking. This estate has concentrated on producing Green tea of a very high standard indeed. The grade we have chosen is a Pekoe grade (large droplets) produced by careful withering and rolling. This gives us a superb gunpowder green tea. Our first batch for Harrods was picked in September 1997 in a dry spell after special briefing of the pluckers. Something we try and do on every estate we work with. Their co-operation is vital to the standard of the final product.
