Dimbula District
4,000 feet.

Situated in the heart of the famous Dimbula District, close to the town of Kotagala, facing the Kotagala valley. The estate receives a dry wind blowing up the Queensberry gap. Tea-maker can develop an excellent O.P. grade leaf at this high elevation. We describe the brew as 'a whiff of morning mist'. This alludes to the soft swirling mists that we experience on the estates in the early morning.

ESTATE:   338 Acres (137 Hect) - Supports 396 resident workers, 21 staff and 1 Executive.

TEA-MAKER (Factory Officer): Mr. Murugiah
SUPERINTENDENT. (Manager): Mr. Thishantha de Silva.

Liquor:    A good bright coloury liquor. A fragrant uplifting mid-morning and afternoon drink. A lovely rounded rounded rosy Dimbula season tea. We describe it as 'with a whiff of morning mist'. Will take milk well if required at full strength. Cut leaf quantity to produce a light liquor with aroma for drinking without milk.

Made Leaf: The normal perception is that quality leaf should be a shiny black in colour
with good silvery or gold tip amongst the leaf. This is an old grocery business terminology for a quality leaf. The look depends on whether the leaf is made in season or out of season.
In season we are going for flavoury leaf with character and that involves an initial lighter
entry rolling quickly followed by a harder rolling to get the liquor out and onto the
twisting leaf. This gives a leaf with a reddish almost stalky appearance, not only that but
high grown O.P's and O.P. 1's are the leaf ribs with some small torn strips of leaf still
attached which roll around the rib and twist. There is a higher level of rib stalk as
against stem stalk. Furthermore with excessive handling and picking of stalk the leaf
takes up hand moisture and becomes grey in appearance. It never pays to handle leaf
once it is made if it can be avoided. 100 % Traditional twist rolled leaf production.

TIN CADDIES
These are the seasonal tea caddies with the estate colours shown on the labels. Within this selection
we have Silver Tips or White tea as it is called which is a very specialist manufacture. This type of White tea equates to the Chinese tea called 'Yin Zhen' which is the most prized of the white tea types being just selected fat buds with no other leaf involved. Our Silver Tips tea is a single estate tea and it has become extremely popular because of the extremely low caffeine level within the bud. Also in this selection of caddies we have presented two Tisanes. loose Chamomile flower and loose Peppermint.
