CARTON PACKS:

The picture shows a selection of the colour coded cartons within our range of special single estate seasonal teas including green teas and Organic teas.

The estate has three divisions, Lower Venture, Lower Lawrence and Upper Lawrence and the estate borders the Hambantota Oya (Oya = Stream in Sinhalese) to the North. The estate is a fairly compact square lying along the slope of a range of hills. The area is very rocky but the estate have used this feature to create a terracing effect for soil conservation. Although the estate has a number of cows to produce composting material, workers are encouraged to keep cattle and are important contributors to the overall production of dung for composting.
The estate has been certified as Organic since 1st. September1999 and inspection is by IMO Switzerland. It is situated at the top end of the Bogowantalawa valley area, reaching back towards Maskeliya. On the map opposite it would be roughly South East of Brunswick estate.
The estate has fluctuated in extent over the years. In 1963 there were 847 acres planted in tea. It is interesting to note that there were only 16 estates listed for the whole of Nuwara Eliya in 1865 and none of the estates such as Venture, Lawrence or Stockholm were listed in 1865. However in an old map called the 'Planting Districts of Ceylon', showing each individual estate and published in 1890 by Ferguson as a folding book map, these estates are then recorded, so they came into being as estates with the spread of tea once the old districts of Dolosbagie, Hewaheta and Pussellawa had had their coffee trees uprooted and tea became the crop.

Superintendent: Mr. Jeremy Walker

Tea-Maker: Mr. Gnamuttu

Liquor: B.O.P. grade - A bright red rosy liquor with it's high grown Western Seasonal character. An excellent bright brisk brew for an Organic tea.

Brewing: Brew as for all black teas, we recommend 3 - 5 minutes with freshly drawn water taken to 'point of boil' and not past the first bubbles appearing in the kettle and this temperature combined with the still oxygenated water will contribute to the best dissolving of the volatile oils that have been fired on at point of boil temperature in the estate factory.
