further information

125 g Loose Teas in a very light gift quality white wooden box:

Opposite is a photograph of the 125 g Loose tea gift pack wood boxes. The internal pack is in heat sealed foil to maintain freshness of flavour and protect from any contamination from odours. The timber is from a species of shade tree planted in the tea fields and managed for generations on a cycle of management. The estates maintain a shade tree nursery where replacement trees are reared. The timber is extremely light and sun dried. The preparation of the wood surface is extremely important in order to take the quality of printing that is achieved.

Brewing:    Black leaf tea bags: We recommend that freshly drawn water is allowed to heat to 'point of boil' as the kettle vibrates, not to the click when oxygen has been driven off. As the water heats up use some to heat the pot or cup, pouring this away. place the tea bag or bags in the pot or cup and upon boiling pour from the kettle swiftly over the tea bag. For Green tea use 90 o C (194 F) water.

Use one bag per cup or one bag per person in the pot. With a tea pot this can be reduced for a lighter brew to your palate.

Brew for 1.5 to 5 minutes again to your palate's requirement.

Water Quality: Water quality is vitally important for brewing proper teas. Many of the modern blended teas contain CTC leaf to boost colour and also contain high levels of crushed stalk fibre to counteract water quality. Where fibre is high then the tea quality is very low. It is always best to use water filter jugs unless you live in areas such as Cumbria or Scotland and even there Chlorine can be a problem. With the low water quality in the mains many people buy a suitable bottled water for drinking purposes and it is therefore not a big step to use such water for brewing teas and as a result you will enhance the clarity and life of such quality teas. Water quality is becoming more and more important for brewing of Coffees and teas. Teas were never invented by the Chinese to be strong but to be delicate and develop aromas and flavours. Modern CTC and constant rotovaning of teas produces teas with high caffeine levels which have affected some consumers and led many doctors to suggest avoiding tea or coffee. Stick to the Traditional large leaf twist rolled teas and caffeine is less of a problem.

ICED TEA:    Brew at double strength and pour into a glass or glasses filled with ice.

Green issues and Crafted wooden gift boxes:

There can be concern about the use of timber in packing if it is not from a sustainable source. As we have stated elsewhere, the timber we use is from a type of tree grown within the tea fields to produce high shade. The trees are managed on a long standing cycle and totally sustainable. Firstly the making of these boxes provides employment in the area. Secondly it utilises a source of timber that would otherwise have to find another use. We believe it is a very 'GREEN' product as against tin caddies for this region.

The teas are a selection from all districts and elevations. They are also include black, green and organic production.
