PACKAGING WITHIN TEA  BAG  PACKS:

All the tea bag packs except the Catering range shown separately, are packed as double gusset, non bleached bags, with string and a tag. Further covered in an individual wrapper to preserve the freshness of the leaf.

The range has been developing and initially a standard green wrapper with a standard printed tag has been used. As from 2002 we have introduced a new design for the tea bags. All new stocks being received now will feature a wrapper printed with the name of tea and colour of the carton that the bags are packed in. Furthermore the tag will also be printed with the tea type and colour code. This is in response to consumer requests for clearer identification of the bags in use. However this will take time to feed through.

We have also returned to our original concept that was so popular with consumers and that is to pack the wrapped bags further into heat sealed printed pouches within the packaging with 25 bags per pouch. This further preserves the tea bags once the carton or box is opened. The 50 bag cartons or wood boxes have 2 x 25 pouches and the catering 400 bag packs have 16 x 25 bag pouches.

Brewing:   For black teas we recommend that the freshly drawn water is allowed to boil to the point of vibration when the first bubbles rise and then poured from the kettle swiftly and with a swirling action on to the leaf in the pot. To allow the kettle to proceed to the cut off click reduces the oxygen (life) in the water. For Green tea use 90 o C (194 F) water.

For teas with milk brew for 3 - 5 minutes to your palate requirement.

ICED TEA:    Brew at double strength and pour into a glass or glasses filled with ice.

Gift Wood Boxes or Chestlets:

Opposite is a photograph of the 50 tea bag gift pack wood boxes. In front is internal 25 bag pouch with an example of the wrapper and tag. The timber is from a species of shade tree planted in the tea fields and managed for generations on a cycle of management. The estates maintain a shade tree nursery where replacement trees are reared. The timber is extremely light and sun dried. The preparation of the wood surface is extremely important in order to take the quality of printing that is achieved.

The 'Organic Bio dynamic tea is obtained from a community owned estate, close to the edge of the Uva district.  This form of production is given in greater detail in the organic section of the Website.

'Green' issues and Crafted wooden gift boxes:

There can be concern about the use of timber in packing if it is not from a sustainable source. As we have stated elsewhere, the timber we use is from a type of tree grown within the tea fields to produce high shade. The trees are managed on a long standing cycle and totally sustainable. Firstly the making of these boxes provides employment in the area. Secondly it utilises a source of timber that would otherwise have to find another use. We believe it is a very 'GREEN' product as against tin caddies for this region.
