Loose
leaf capacity and care of the caddy:
The caddy has a 100 g capacity , dependent upon the grade and openness of that grade of leaf. It is available in Iodised finish which means that the craftsman has coated the original Brass or Copper metal with a darker coating and then rubbed back the highlights to the Brass or copper layer. Then finally he has coated the caddy with a coating which preserves the polish. Do not use metal polish on the caddy but merely buff it with a soft polishing cloth when needed. It is also available in a Silver plated finish. The craftsman has added his own touch to this caddy by moulding round the bottom edge to give a fuller sturdier look to the caddy base. The metalwork is deep.
Design on the caddy:
The motif on the caddy is of the Hamsa Puttowa (Sacred entwined swans), together with the vine of life. The significance of the Hamsa Puttuwa, which is our logo on our packs, is that when a bride marries in the Kandy region she wears 7 necklaces and on one is the Hamsa Puttuwa as a sign of purity, wholesomeness and goodness. It is therefore used with respect for it's sacredness in Buddhist tradition and only where items are presented as examples of great pride and craftsmanship. the vine of life comes from the entrance to buildings of great importance in the old cities of Annaradpura and Polonnaruwa where a moonstone is used at the first step into a building and this relates the cycles of life on earth entwined with the vine of life.
Packaging:
The caddy comes with the standard red cardboard box shown in the photograph.
