PACKAGING:

Source of timber used for the boxes:

The timber that we use for the making of the boxes is from a species of tree that has been used as a shade tree within the tea fields for many generations. During that time it has been managed on a replacement cycle and this policy still continues to-day which allows us to use the timber for the boxes and also forms another source of  income for the estates.

THE  TEA:

The tea used in these boxes is from specialist manufacture made specifically for us. These are not standard teas (wet and dry tea mixed) but special season teas made to our requirements in order to develop flavour and character. Please follow our suggestions for brewing and they will return great pleasure to the consumer.

The teas are packed within the boxes in a sealed foil pouch to protect and preserve the freshness and flavour level of the teas which are packed straight from the estate factory once we have made a run of manufacture.

The tea has been developed at an estate which specialises in green teas. The tea lands are community owned and plucked by the local community. Discipline of plucking is absolutely vital to the manufacture of quality tea and for this tea 12 very experienced pluckers only were selected. Normally plucking is said to be to the tender bud and two leaves below this, in practice we know that pluckers can select at least a further leaf down the stem where the leaf is tender and where discipline is lax poor leaf is often plucked. In this instance the pluckers were restricted to the bud and only one leaf extra. This restricts the weight that the pluckers can pluck and therefore their bonus payment has to be made compensated.

BREWING:    Brew as for green teas  90 o C (194 F).
ICED  TEA:    All our teas can be used for iced tea by brewing at double strength and pouring the brew into a glass or glasses filled with ice.
