   O.P. 1

Morawak Korale
250 ft

This is a superbly managed small family estate. The family are highly involved and the plucking force used to very strict disciplined plucking. Many tea companies advertise the two leaf and a bud plucking but as I know from field management myself, pluckers will always be tempted to include more than this because their bonuses depend upon weight. This means that very few estates achieve a complete lack of coarser leaf. Strict high quality plucking of this severity reduces the yield of an estate but the family have rightly sought quality rather than high yields. The estate produces first class black leafy grades, O.P. and OP1 being a speciality for the this district and their prices reflect their place in the market..

The estate overlooks the famous Sinha Raja protected tropical rain forest or jungle, home to large numbers of elephant. Like Galaboda not far from Matara, though a bit more inland.
